Play-Doh Lab: Stress and Faults

Mr. Wolf's 8th grade science classes used Play-Doh to model and identify various types of stress and faults.

Outwit, Outplay, Outlast: Survivor

The students of Mrs. Porter’s Advanced English 8 class were divided into tribes to see which group will outwit, outplay, and outlast while reading the novel, Lord of the Flies. Prior to reading the novel, the students participated in an activity that was modeled after the TV show, Survivor. After completing this activity, the students were able to connect with the characters in the novel through a shared experience of what one really needs to survive.
After every two chapters, the class holds a tribal council meeting to interpret and analyze the text. The students spend time working within their tribes on the literature circle role sheets of discussion director, connector, vocabulary enhancer, illustrator, symbol tracker, and character tracer. After these role sheets are completed, the students meet as a class to compete against each other in a battle to outwit the other tribes. During this competition, the students can earn bonus points to use on the final test.
In the slide show are photos of the students during the competition day. The students created tribe names and costumes to wear on this day in class. Also pictured are images from the illustrator wall that the students will continue to work on throughout the course of the novel. Please check back soon for updates to the illustrator wall.

The Incredible Edible Earth!: 2011-2012

Mr. Wolf's science classes kicked off the transition from physical science to Earth science by creating physical models of the Earth's interior. These models didn't last too long because of hungry Supernovas! Fortunately, the real Earth is not in danger because, unlike our models, it does not consist of SunButter, jelly, chocolate chips, grahams crackers, powdered sugar, and honey.
