  • Helpful Websites: http://www.diigo.com/user/wolfpaul/volcanoes.  IMPORTANT: The links that state "research various volcanoes" will help you find information on specific volcanoes.  
  • Google Earth is currently NOT compatible with the Chromebooks and will not work.  You may use "Google Maps" instead of "Google Earth" when you reach step #9 if you can't find the location of your volcano using the helpful websites.

English 8 & Advanced English 8: End of the Year Bonus

Your book log for the 2012-2013 school year must be turned in to Mrs. Porter by Friday, May 24th.  You will receive a bonus point for each novel that you have read independently during this school year.  You can earn up to 50 bonus points!  

Science Class: 5/16 and 5/17

Please complete the following by the due dates listed below. Please remain silent and on-task the entire class period.

1. Click on the link below to complete an earthquake Quia activity. You are allowed to take the activity up to three times. If you do not score a 25 out of 25 (100%), retake the activity until you score a perfect or you have used all three attempts. Only your best score will be recorded in the gradebook. You may use your notes, book, and internet to help you with the activity.  You last attempt must be completed by 5/20/13.

2. Complete: "Webquest: Earthquakes."  Read the instructions listed below before starting the webquest!!!! An electronic version with working links is embedded below. (DUE: 5/22/13)
  • Show your green certificate (5 points) to Mr. Wolf once you reach step 4.  If you complete this assignment outside of class, you must print or email your certificate to Mr. Wolf.  
  • When working on the National Geographic website, please take your time and read through each step on the lab.  DO NOT SKIP TO TAB 7.  
  • The USGS website has recently been updated.  When completing numbers 13 and 16, refer to the electronic document below for updated instructions.  Your paper copy has the old instructions.   
  •  Don't forget about the optional bonus paragraph. 
  • Please turn in the webquest paper once it is complete.  (7 points)

Career Research Paper

The students of Mrs. Porter's English 8 and Advanced English 8 classes are writing career research papers. The students will be completing their research in the CMS Library and are to use the career pathfinder to gather research. The students are encouraged to use the Purdue OWL website to assist them with using MLA format for the in-text citations. The students will be using NoodleBib to create their works cited pages. The papers are due at the end of class on Wednesday, May 15th. The students will also be holding a career fair in the school's library.
