Science: CH 7-3 and 7-4 Exam - Optional Retake Reminder

Attention Supernova Science Students
Reminder: If you wish to retake the CH 7-3 and 7-4 Exam, your study guide and vocabulary words are to be turned in by 2/21/14.  If Mr. Wolf receives both documents from you by the due date, he will schedule a time for you to retake your exam.  If you improve your score, then the gradebook will be updated with your new grade. 

Note: If you earn an "A" on the original test and the retake, you will be awarded 3 bonus points.

Advanced English 8: Bonus Opportunity

The students in Mrs. Porter's Advanced English 8 class can earn up to 10 bonus points towards the final test on the novel, Lord of the Flies.  The students are to create art depicting a scene or symbol from Chapters 11 & 12 from the novel and write a two paragraph summary explaining the art.  The bonus assignment is due on Tuesday, February 25th. 

English 8: Bonus Assignment

The students in Mrs. Porter's English 8 classes can earn up to 15 bonus points towards the test on Chapters 19-23 from the novel, The Giver.  All students received the bonus opportunity instructions in class on Monday, February 17th.  For the bonus, the students are to synthesize the literary elements of The Giver by producing an advertising poster to promote the novel to other readers.  To receive the maximum points, the students must follow all of the instructions on the bonus sheet.  The bonus is due on Friday, February 21st.

The Supernova science students spent time in science class examining various examples of common igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks found in Pennsylvania.

Science Class: 2/4, 2/6, and 2/7/14

Please complete the following steps in order. Please remain silent and on-task during the entire class period.  

Note: Before beginning, please turn in the following if you have not done so already.
1.  Complete: "Web Activity: Rocks & the Rock Cycle." This assignment will take at least two days. You may take the quiz at the end of this activity as many times as you like before reporting your score to Mr. Wolf.  If you take the quiz at home, please print the first page that shows your name and score.  You do not need to print the other pages.  This assignment is due February 12th.

2.  Headphones Required - Watch the following 3 videos in order.
3.  View the following PowerPoint on rocks.
4. Complete the following worksheet on rocks and the rock cycle.  Use the notes above to help.
5.  Headphones Required - Watch the following video.
6.  Study the vocabulary words for rocks.
7. Pick from the following options once everything else is complete.

    English 8: Bonus Opportunity

    Mrs. Porter's English 8 students have the chance to earn 10 bonus points in class towards their next test on The Giver.  The students can create a poster representing memories.  The students must include memories that invoke at least five different feelings, such as happiness, anger, disappointment, jealousy, sadness, hope, love, excitement, concern, and affection.  Use photos, magazines, or any other item you can attach to the poster to convey the emotion and the feeling.  Please remember that all images must be school appropriate.  Label each memory with the corresponding emotion.  This activity gives the students a chance to examine their own memories as a response to the theme of memory in The Giver.  The bonus is due on Friday, February 7th.
